This version is released with the intent of being completely FREE: free software, open source code and CC-licensed media*. I have done a few adjustments here and there, many of you probably won't notice so I won't bother listing them. Tonguepoke

Just making the game better for you guys, basically.

Now, I need you to take my game, play it, and tell me if you think it is ready for worldwide release.

I will not be accepting any more suggestions, and only grave severity bugfixes.

I will put up a full changelog for the last 5 or so releases soonish. But at the moment, only the "WhatsNew.txt" in the Ardentryst folder. Smile

Well, I've played the game most of the day, and it's absolutely amazing. I just wish it was longer. I've only managed to crash it once (and i was trying really hard, too) - I had a couple of the dragon summons on the screen, and tried to touch an obelisk at the same time. Unfortunately, it wouldn't let me send the error report for some reason, but it complained about obelisk interactivity or something like that. I hope this is the right place for this by the way. Anyways, amazing game Smile

-- I just tried to replicate the error. It happens every single time I try to activate an obelisk while any dragon summons are on the screen. the error says "Obelisk instance has no attribute 'interactive'".

Wow, what a strange bug. I'll look into that! Thankfully it's not such a huge thing and I can fix it in a future point release without forcing everyone to upgrade.

I'll get right on the fix for the obelisk bug! (It's probably a bug in objects in general, some sloppy code or something. Nothing too big.)

It's kinda happened before, I don't remember what it was now, but I'll have a look soon. It's probably some stupid mistake on my part. This doesn't happen too often right? Smile

@Grangh: Not really, I'm a newbie to SVN, I got my dad to set it up, and it works well for exporting and logging =] The development cycle usually goes like:

0. Pick a convenient time to develop. This is usually 5-11pm.
1. See particularly what needs to be done (check a todo list)
a) Bugfixes
b) Tweaks
c) Content addition (ughh... Tonguepoke)
2. Go about coding it, and make the art and whatever at the same time.
3. Clean it off, go to bed.
4. Repeat step 0.

Hi,

I noticed something (a bug or then I really cheated) while playing this version. I first completed Frosty Frolic, then saved my game at Snodom eternal boulder, then moved my Pyralis back to Frosty Frolic. I did not enter the level but pressed the Q-button for menu. When doing this, instead of menu view I got a message on the screen:

"The gods do not like it when you try to cheat! Press C to continue"

When I pressed C then I got the menu view. However, when I returned from the menu view and tried to enter Frosty Frolic after that my Pyralis would fall immediately at the start of the level (the screen zooms in at once and the resurrector fairy comes visible). Only when I moved Pyralis to another location and returned the level would appear normally again.

I tested this three times and the result was always the same. The question is: Did I really try to cheat by this action? If so, I really did not mean to do that. I'm a fair player by heart =). No error messages were printed on the command console.

Hey IdTen, it seems you were the first (second if you count me) person to find this bug. No, you weren't actually cheating, but that message comes up when you're in the exit zome of Frosty Frolic without raising the bridge (however it works on your x co-ordinate, which can legitimately be left past the end point, even after the bridge has reset, which causes this glitch)

It was one of the first fixes in the next version.

After finishing the last level of the area "Snodum", I entered Kiripan and read the first message box. A few seconds later, the game crashed. When I tried to resume my game by restarting Ardentryst, I got a message saying that my save game was corrupted :( I also got an error saying that my error report couldn't be sent.


I started another character and got to the same point, but this time the game saved after entering Kripan and I was returned to the main menu.


PS. I am using version 1.61, but I figured it should be posted here in case this problem might not have been discovered yet.

Oh, and I am going to try out the latest version tonight! I'll be back if I find any major bugs.


EDIT. I downloaded the latest version for windows,and here is what I have to report:

1.The burst attack LAUNCHES those bats really far, but it doesn't do much to the other monsters. I think the burst attack should be renamed repel. What I'm thinking it would do is repel anything away from you. (even fireballs!)

2. Speaking of wasps...can you make them fly around like the bats?

3. When enemies fall off the edge you still acquire items.

4. This happened more in V1.61, but only a few times in V1.7 - A message coming up that says the game is sluggish. I have a really high performance comp, and the game seems to run fine, so I don't understand why this message is coming up.

5. Do you think you could make outfit customizations show while you are traveling?

6. I think spells need to take more mana. I have never ran out of mana while playing.

7. bats can't hurt me. They just huddle around me doing nothing.

8. When I bought a Pendant of confusion, it made me buy two at once! The same goes if I try to sell them back. When I tried to wear my Pendant of confusion, I got a message saying "can't wear more" even though I didn't have any other pendants on.


9. When I die with a halo, I respawn with a halo.

I know your not accepting suggestions, but I figured I could throw some out there.

Thanks for the comments. I'll try to answer them methodically--

After finishing the last level of the area "Snodum", I entered Kiripan and read the first message box. A few seconds later, the game crashed.

This is likely because of the save glitch which crashed the game when you tried to save mid-spell (you could finish a level with a spell active and try to save it.)

This was fixed in 1.7 I believe.

The burst works on inertia, and the bats have REALLY low deceleration. I think this can be lived with. It's good for some things too, like making bees pause without hurting them. Also with the fireballs, they are not monsters so it would require extra programming to make them repelled. (Nicety)

I could, but I tried to make the movement of each enemy unique. If I get the time, you can expect more variety in the sequel.

This is true. Sometimes you don't mean for them to fall off the edge, and you shouldn't be penalised for that. With that in mind though, I will probably make it so that they don't next time.

4. ...A message coming up that says the game is sluggish....
The message only comes up once per game in v1.7+. The overhead is mainly due to Python. I'm not saying it isn't possible to make it faster, it most certainly is. It's my first big game project, I wanted to nut out everything so that it worked mainly, then worry about optimising later, because it could break stuff.

5. Do you think you could make outfit customizations show while you are traveling?

Probably not, as this would require using the same body sprite as in-game. The sprite on the map is slightly smaller to fit in with the map scale, and so the clothes wouldn't fit. Could be done for a future version, if everyone likes it. Smile

Balance has always been an issue in the game.

I planned to only have your player get up to around level 10-15 by the end of Snodom, and not have Sorcery gear available until later, however since there isn't a later, I decided to chuck it in there for your gaming benefit.

That's very odd. Here I've recorded a video from v.20090726 (1.71-Comet Unstable) with me manipulating the said case. I can't see anything out of the ordinary. Also, 'wearing' goes for all accessories, rings, etc. Check your 'Equipped' tab and see what you're wearing.
(P.S. note that I re-find an old glitch Tonguepoke the shop menus don't scroll or anything, or have a line-limitGrin)

You're supposed to. You lose the halo when you take damage.
If you save at an obelisk without a halo, then die, you still shouldn't have one when you are returned to the obelisk. This one I'm not 100% sure of.
