Maybe it would be better to work on "Ardentryst 2" in the principle of an FOSS project. That means you are releasing often and early so users can give feedback early and even developers can help you with this project by making graphics and writing code. Sure, thats may some additional "community" work, but I am sure that you easily could get some contributors which take some other work. (And, as an selfish reason for myself, we (the poeple who like to see new things and like to see how it develops) have earlier something to play with.)

Ardentryst "2" is still at a very very early stage (pre-planning) but it'd be a dream for me to release it to the world and have my game actually out there in the marketplace--I may work on FOSS (ardentryst? other?) projects too of course

I think it would be really cool to be able to see Ardentryst 2 in its early development-- but I am willing to wait 5 years if it somehow causes the game to become "better."
Besides, I'm in the making of a game very similar in quality to Ardentryst, and I prefer to not feel rushed to beat your release date.

Yes well it's definitely not being worked on at the moment because I have so much to do:

All the time I have at least 2 uni assignments to do, when I finish those, I get more ... full-time uni student is a job in itself... then one week off to study for exams.. then holidays!

Now I have casual work inside the university for 20 hours a week which does go into the holidays

I am leader of a game developer group (club-like thing) and have to plan our project and organise meetings and monitor how everything's going...

On top of that I'm always asked to go to random meetings and lunches because of my academic record (dean's scholar merit and stuff)

After I have some free time I'm hoping to finish "Bop!" -- a mini game I'm working on, then work on "Zombie Survival" and release those two games before even the planning phase of Ardentryst "2"...!!

So you can probably tell I have very little time for all of this!
