I installed Ardentryst yesterday with a package manager and have really enjoyed it so far. It seemed to be working fine, but after restarting my laptop it now says there is a fatal error. I'm new at Linux so please don't rule out the obvious solutions. Here is the log followed by a few specs:

~ $ ardentryst
./ardentryst.py:24: DeprecationWarning: the sha module is deprecated; use the hashlib module instead
import smtplib, email, math, sha, md5
./ardentryst.py:24: DeprecationWarning: the md5 module is deprecated; use hashlib instead

Hmm, it seems your save game has been corrupted somehow. Did you restart your laptop while Ardentryst was running? Or edit the savefile manually? Have a look in the Ardentryst directory, under the Saves subdirectory. Look for your save file and open it up in any text editor. It may be blank, or it may be pickled, either way it may or may not be recoverable.

Not too sure of the reason though, sorry

Thanks for getting back with me. I did unintentionally restart the laptop while the game was running . I'm assuming this is the cause but I've no idea how to rectify it. I did not try to edit the savegame though. In fact I cannot even find a save subdirectory or any trace of a savegame. This may be due to my attempts to uninstall and reinstall the program. If this helps and there is a solution, please let me know. If not then I guess I will have to wait for an update. At any rate, thank you for your help.

So funnily enough I've tried installing other versions from the CVS and they seem to work alright. So I'm good for now. Something must have gone wrong with the apt-get version. Again, I wish I knew exactly what I was doing, but thank you for your help.

Oh, alright. Well I'm not sure but probably installing and re-installing may have had something to do with it.. usually you get that error when you load a game, I don't think I actually asked when you got that error? Anyway, I'm glad it's all working again, just shout if you get into any more trouble! Tonguepoke
